History: In 2016 Re:Seed Saugerties initiated a growing season of community art/soil building activities in the village of Saugerties, NY.  The project started as a shared art/soil building experience, spear-headed by local artist Jennifer Zackin, to create an "Earth Tattoo" to build soil for a future community garden in the heart of town. In 2017, The Underground Center continued the collaboration with The Boys & Girls Club and local youth to turn the initial community art project into a productive learning garden. In 2018 we are continuing this program to accomplish the following goals:

  • TEACH: to teach local youth important gardening skills while also instilling an appreciation for locally grown organic food.
  • CREATE: to create a model garden that shows how to grow food locally in a way that nourishes people and the land.
  • FEED: to address food insecurity in our community by offering local youth at The Boys & Girls Club fresh, healthy food for free.
